We booked a basic room and on arrival we were upgraded free of charge which was a bonus as the upgraded room was extremely nice, clean and comfortable. We were also surprised to see the owner also working hard in the perfect coffee shop ‘Freda+Ray’ which has the best coffee in Grasmere and we were given 10% off the bill which again is a nice touch. Can’t fault any part of the accommodation, owner or trip .

I stayed in the 'Helm Crag' room for 5 nights, which is located at the top of the house and from which you can see the mountains in two directions. The room also offers a dressing room and a wonderful bathroom. The furnishings are high quality, the bed including bedding is above average. You can make your own tea and, if you feel like it, enjoy breakfast in the host's café. I found the location at the end of the town to be great; it's perfect for setting off on hikes from there.
